Are you noticing more eco-friendly cars on your morning commute? Are they finally making a dent in the most popular car in Canada list? According to the latest sales figures for early 2021, perhaps not…
What is the Most Popular Vehicle Sold in Canada?
It should be no surprise to anybody that the Ford F-Series stole the top spot again for first-quarter sales in 2021. This versatile full-size pickup has been the fastest-selling vehicle for 40 years. For every twelve private vehicles on the road, one will be a Ford F-Series.
Why Does the F-Series Continue to Dominate the Market Year-after-Year?
What is so magical about the F-150? After 40 years of scoring the top spot of the best car to buy in Canada, some of its longevity is due to customer loyalty. For example, grandpa drove one, dad drove one, so I decided it would be the right ride for me. When you really get down to it though, Ford stays on top of the pile because they produce a must-have product for many Canadians. See the ‘why’ below:
Outside City Limits, Trucks are a Daily Necessity
If your home or business is located outside a metropolitan area, you need a truck able to muscle through snow, possibly plow it, and move you and your stuff without breaking a sweat. Every trim level of the F-150 is available as a 4X4. The F-250 model is also built for towing and plowing. And room for passengers? Yep, it holds a family of up to six without even blinking.
Smart Technologies are Making Trucks the Perfect Family Vehicle
You may have noticed more SUVs crowding the highways around Toronto. Wouldn’t they make a good replacement for the large truck? Not completely. Most SUVs will fit the kids and even tow your pop-up camper, but they will struggle to tackle the bigger jobs.
But aren’t you sacrificing ability and comforts in a truck? Not anymore. Ford now includes driver-assist features on every truck, including pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Smart cruise control, intelligent high beams, and blind-spot detection are standard or available as part of a package. A Wi-Fi hotspot, smartphone compatibility, heated seats, and automatic climate control are all available options too.
Towing on the Farm, Work Site, or on Holiday
If you need to haul anything larger than an ATV, a full-size pickup is likely required. The F-Series can easily tow something as small as a light trailer to a transfer station and all the way up to livestock and travel trailers. Smart hitch cameras, heated extending side mirrors, and built-in seven-pin connectors make towing one step easier.
What are the Top Selling SUVs and Sedans?
So, you don’t really need a truck. What is on the list for the most popular cars of 2021?
After the Ram truck and GMC Sierra 1500, the Toyota RAV4 scored the fourth highest spot for vehicle sales in the first quarter. The mid-size SUV can seat up to five, carry a supersized load of groceries in the back, and you can opt for capable all-wheel drive. New hybrid and plugin hybrid models help to whittle down your fuel bill without sacrificing safety or function.
Do you just need something comfortable to get you into the office? The Honda Civic ranks as the best-selling sedan. On days when snow is no obstacle, its front-wheel-drive zips through traffic while you ride in comfort. It is more like an executive suite on four wheels. There is seating for up to five, although four is more realistic – and you can fit their backpacks and shopping bags in the trunk.
What about a brand other than the traditional top sellers? Hyundai is knocking on the door of Toyota and Honda with its small SUV, the Kona. A low starting price, a reputation for reliable vehicles, and a decent selection of optional packages make it attractive to families shopping on a budget. Upgrade to all-wheel drive or a hybrid!
