Car covers are a wonderful investment that often go overlooked when considering some of the best things a classic car owner can purchase.

During the winter season, those without the luxury of a garage often associate temporary shelters as a means to avoid the snow and ice build-up on our cars during the winter months. And there’s a reason; they do a phenomenal job at protecting the vehicle within.

But when spring and summer roll around, classic cars are exposed to damaging elements just the same. If you don’t have a garage to store your classic vehicle, you may be unknowingly exposing your classic vehicle to rain, dust, dirt and the underestimated foe – the sun.

Although rain, dust and dirt can mostly affect the exterior of the car, the sun, can damage the outside and more so the interior of the classic car.

When the UV rays and the temperatures reach extreme levels, the vehicle’s interior vinyl or leather oil dries up, which leads to discolouration, drying and worse still – cracking.

So, with this in mind, when it comes to choosing temporary shelters and outdoor car covers, not all are created equal or even, for the same purpose.

Some examples of outdoor (form-fitting) car covers are the Superweave Premium, Noah, Stormweave and the Ultraweave, which are fantastic products that are specifically designed to protect the vehicle from the elements, each having different characteristics with more of less resistance to a particular element, such as being more water resistant, having better protection against dust, providing more protection against dings, nicks and dents. Others still include the additional perk of extreme UV protection.

The Sunbrella is the cover that offers the maximum UV protection of the lot, which is an option to consider if your vehicle is exposed to direct sun for hours, days, weeks or even months on end.

There are also alternate types of covers such as car storage bags and/or capsules.

Some may prefer the inflatable cover approach as there’s no risk of getting any foreign matter stuck between the car surface and the inside of a form-fitting cover, which may scratch the paint should the cover move or shift in the wind, etc.

As with many other options, a classic car owner will definitely have to determine what they feel is best for their classic car (and budget) considering the exposure and the environment.

In our opinion, cover options provide a great deal of protection from dust, rain and UV rays. So, the choice is yours!
