The summer months are winding down, but you’re still longing for a break, a simple getaway before the start of the busy school year and the holiday season arrives. Some excellent places to visit in the approaching fall months are well worth taking advantage of right now. Check out these scenic destinations in Canada that offer hiking, views, and different colours of fall for you to enjoy and a few places to stay along the way.
Nova Scotia – Cape Breton Highlands National Park
There’s no better way to get close to nature than in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. From the rolling hills to the water, the colours are fantastic from October on. You’ll be able to enjoy a hike along the Cabot Trail but also check out some small towns and exceptional seafood while you’re there.
Check out Waves End RV & Campground in Cheticamp for a simple tent- and RV site with everything you need. You can stay at the National Park through the middle of October as well.
Ontario – Algonquin Provincial Park
If you love nature and want to feel the crisp, cool fall air, visit Algonquin Provincial Park. You can bike or hike along the trails, watch for the birds migrating, and see the leaves changing colours. It’s not too far away from the city for some shopping, too
One of the best destinations to stay at is Mew Lake Campground. It’s available throughout the year, so come as late as you like.
British Columbia – Mount Robson Provincial Park
There’s something almost magical about Mount Robson Provincial Park, which is home to the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. If you want adventure, this is an excellent choice with rock climbing, intense hiking, and stunning views. You can still do some fishing, canoeing (depending on conditions) and explore the natural habitats for many animals. Make sure you take the time to check out the Rearguard Falls Provincial Park located nearby, which is fascinating with the cool fall air. Mount Robson’s peak doesn’t have to be your goal either, as there are plenty of shorter hiking trails worthy of exploring.
A number of RV campgrounds exist nearby, but one of the best is Robson River Campground iN Fraser-Fort George H. It offers a full charging area for your electric car as well as all of the amenities you need for your RV.
Manitoba – Nopiming Provincial Park
While fishing isn’t possible too far into the winter months, you can still get in a few days during fall. If that’s your goal, check out Nopiming Provincial Park in Manitoba. It’s quite a popular area since it’s home to over 100 lakes, dozens of trails, and some spectacular fishing grounds. On the other hand, if the temperatures are too low, you could do some hiking to capture the changing seasons.
Hidden Hills RV Park is a solid option for your RV camping in this area of Manitoba. It’s located in Popular Bay, offers fantastic amenities, and tends to be a well-kept location. There’s lots of open space, and if you’re lucky enough, you could see the Northern Lights on this trip.
Prince Edward Island – Prince Edward Island National Park
Prince Edward Island National Park is noted for its incredible views, whether that’s the soft, sandy beaches or the bright red cliffs that jut out along your walking trails. It may be too cold to head into the water, but you can still set up a camp, roast some marshmallows, and enjoy the sweet simplicity of nature. If you’re quiet enough, you’re sure to see the waterfowl swoop in or a red fox lurking along the wooded hills. It’s quite a fantastic experience.
Several RV campgrounds are located nearby, but one of the best is Stanhope Campground in York. The sites are larger, and the campground has ample amenities to help you keep your space comfortable. Full showers and laundry facilities are available here, too.
