Pride Month is just around the corner, and so is summer weather! That means it’s time to hit the road for an Ontario camping trip.
We want to make it easy for members of the queer community to find amazing places to camp that are scenic and packed with fun activities — that are also inclusive and safe.
Read on for details about some of Ontario’s favourite inclusive, LGBTQIA2S+-friendly campgrounds.
Riverside RV Campground
Looking for an idyllic spot to set up your RV? Riverside RV Campground, a members-only campground for gay men, fits the bill. Set on the banks of the stunning Skootamatta River, this private campground offers 2,400 feet of waterfront.
Riverside RV Campground includes 110 sites and tents offering trees, space and privacy spread across 96 wooded acres. Campers enjoy the use of a heated in-ground swimming pool. The campground offers themed weekends, dances, and community bonfires during the summer.
The campground offers nightly, weekly, or seasonal rates. A seasonal membership provides you with a dedicated campsite. You can even store your RV on-site over the winter.
Hammond Hill
Set on 62 acres covered with mature trees, Hammond Hill offers campsites, cabins, and yurts for a peaceful getaway. In this serene setting, you will find a licensed beer garden, games for all ages and easy trail access. In the winter, you can also book snowmobile tours and enjoy snow camping.
While Hammond Hill isn’t exclusively for LGBTQ folks, it is welcoming and inclusive. And though it feels far away from the hustle and bustle, Hammond Hill is just minutes from a brewery, golf course and restaurant.
Rainbow Ridge Resort and Campground
Just a short drive from Toronto, Rainbow Ridge Resort and Campground is just for adult members of the LGBTQ+ community. The resort focuses on welcoming diverse guests, including all gender identities. Choose from serviced RV spots with all the hookups or set up in a wooded rustic site with a fire pit and picnic table.
Take a dip in the campground’s heated pool or brave the cool waters of the resort’s spring-fed pond. Rainbow Ridge offers a full schedule of fun activities during the summer months, including dances and other social events. When hungry, head for the Enchanted Woods food truck conveniently parked on-site.
The Point Resort
On Ontario’s scenic south coast, The Point Resort is a safe place for gay and bisexual men to camp. Choose from full hookups or more rustic sites at this private membership campground. All campers must pass through a verification process.
The Point Resort is a perfect jumping-off point for outdoor activities, from biking and hiking to swimming and volleyball. During the warmer months, the campground hosts social events and activities. Rates are inclusive, so amenities like showers and event admittance are included.
Cedars Campground
Cedars Campground has been exclusively designed for the queer, trans, lesbian, gay and bi community. Set on 130 acres near the Niagara Escarpment. You can spend peaceful days swimming in the heated pool, dining at Seasons Restaurant, or playing board games in the library/game room if the weather takes a turn.
Cedars Campground offers family social events and activities during the summer. There’s even a nightclub on-site. Other amenities at this welcoming campground include showers and laundry. Choose from non-serviced or hookup pull-through sites; seasonal sites with electricity are available.
