Stunning autumn foliage… Crisp, sunny days… Fall is the perfect time to explore Ontario, and there’s no better way to do it than on a motorcycle.

If you’re planning fall motorcycle trips, add Ontario to your list. These Ontario motorcycle routes take in the best the province has to offer, from charming small towns and red-orange foliage to rugged wilderness vistas. Here are some of the best roads for motorcycles in Ontario.

Algonquin Park Loop

For unbeatable fall colour, cruise through the deciduous forests of sugar maple, birch, poplar and tamarack that line Highway 60. The 828 km Algonquin Park Loop starts in Ottawa and passes through North Bay before heading back by way of Huntsville. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, such as moose, bear and elk as you ride through pristine forests.

Be sure to stop at the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre, home to a viewing platform, theatre and interactive exhibits. Expect big hills, big curves and stunning scenery. Just be sure to gas up whenever you pass a station, as they’re few and far between.

Calabogie Boogie

If straight lines simply aren’t your thing, head for eastern Ontario and hit the Calabogie Road. You’ll twist and turn along this well-maintained road for about 215 km without encountering many straight stretches. You will pass forests, lakes, cliffs and charming towns along the way.

Don’t miss stops include the Calabogie Motorsports Park, home to the country’s longest public track. Stop by the Wilno Tavern Restaurant for genuine Polish fare. Take a break at Calabogie Peaks Resort and ride the chairlift to the top of Dickson Mountain for stunning fall foliage views below.

Deep Valley Run

In the mood for an intense ride? The Deep Valley Run offers 771 km of excitement. You’ll cruise past amazing lakes and rushing whitewater vistas. There are also some great eateries along the way, like the Bent Anchor Bar in Combermere and the Lumbertown Ale House in Arnprior.

As for photo ops, be sure to snap some pictures at beautiful Bonnechere Provincial Park in Round Lake and St. Mary’s Church in Wilno. Explore underground at the Bonnechere Caves, and treat yourself to ice cream at Scoops in Pakenham.

Grand Algoma Tour

No list of amazing Ontario motorcycle routes would be complete without the Grand Algoma Tour. This 682 km route takes about two days and offers some amazing scenery, some heart-racing twists, and plenty of lake views.

Starting in Sault Ste. Marie, head north toward Wawa along the shores of Lake Superior. Along the way, you’ll encounter some great twists. Schedule time to stop by Alona Bay and the Agawa Bay Visitor Centre. Closer to Wawa, take a short detour onto gravel roads to Magpie Falls.

Expect some serious twists in the road as you close the other side of the loop — heading south from Wawa back to Sault Ste. Marie. Stop to snap some photos at Aubrey Falls Provincial Park, and the roadside Bruce Mines Museum.

St. Jacobs Loop

Only got a few hours to explore? No problem — the St. Jacobs loop is perfect for a fall afternoon. Just under 70 km, this loop runs through Fergus, Elora and St. Jacobs. You’ll pass through serene farmland on the southern portion of the ride, then follow the Grand River up to Elora.

In Fergus, stop to check out the historic buildings, quarried from local stone. Just north of St. Jacobs, you’ll pass through Mennonite country, complete with horse and buggies. This ride is calm, with well-maintained roads and gentle curves.

Autumn is the perfect time of year to get out and explore open roads and open skies. These fall motorcycle trips and Ontario motorcycle routes are the ideal way to experience all that the province has to offer.
