When you’re travelling by RV, the possibilities for fun are only limited by your imagination. And if you’re looking to add some more variety and excitement to this year’s RV adventures, there are some “bucket list” ideas you may want to try for yourself!
1. RV Through Every Season
Experiencing RV travel through all four seasons can make for a very special year, especially if you live in a climate that doesn’t experience a lot of changes in weather. You might consider, for example, planning a trip to see the colourful foliage during the autumn months and another trip to explore some sandy beaches during the dog days of summer.
Just make sure to plan for your travels accordingly with proper RV maintenance, however. This may include taking some special precautions to get your RV ready for winter travel, especially if you’ll potentially be driving through adverse weather conditions.
2. Say “No” to Technology
One of the great things about RVing is that it allows you to escape into nature while still retaining many of the conveniences and luxuries of modern living. Still, if you’re looking to connect a little more closely with nature and “disconnect” from the stresses of everyday life, you might consider incorporating a “no-technology” challenge into your next RV trip.
While it’s true that you’ll still need to rely on some basic technology on your trip, you could make it a goal to avoid using your smartphone, tablet, or other mobile devices on-the-go. And if you can get your whole family involved, you might be surprised at how much you can bond and learn about each other along the way!
3. Travel the Original Route 66
Looking for a specific destination to add to your bucket list this year? How about the famous Route 66, which runs from Chicago, Illinois all the way through Santa Monica, California. Not only are there plenty of great stops along this historic route (including the National Route 66 Museum in Oklahoma and Santa Monica Pier at the route’s endpoint), but the drive is a very scenic way to see a large portion of the United States! There are also plenty of RV-friendly stops, including dedicated campsites, along the way.
4. Bring a Newbie on Your Trip
Is there somebody in your life who has never been on an RV trip or never been camping? If so, then bringing him or her along for your next adventure can be…well, an adventure in itself! This can be a great way to expose somebody new to all the wonderful things about RV travel while also seeing your own trips from a new and fresh perspective.
5. Pick a Destination At-Random
Have you ever dreamed of throwing a dart at a map on the wall to choose your next travel destination? What’s stopping you? If you’re looking to travel somewhere new and fun in your RV this year, choosing a destination at-random can be a great way to stir things up.
Not feeling quite that adventurous but still want to make choosing your next destination a little more exciting? Consider narrowing down your destinations to a handful of options, writing each option down on a small piece of paper, and choosing one at-random from a jar. Likewise, you could hold a poll on social media and allow your friends/family to choose your next travel destination!
6. Start an RV Travel Blog
Documenting your RV travels can be a great way to make things a little more interesting. And of course, if you publish your experiences on a travel blog or similar resource, you can help to inform future travellers as well. You might consider writing about the restaurants you visit along your travels, as well as the sights and landmarks you’ve seen. Be sure to post plenty of pictures, too! These blogs can be a lot of fun to look back on with your loved ones down the road.
